About this place
This place is identified in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory as the Suwon branch of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Mirinae. Although it stands near Mirinae Shrine, it is not a pilgrimage facility of the shrine or a parish, but a local community of the congregation. It is therefore more appropriate to understand it first as a community of consecrated life where the sisters pray, live together, and continue the mission of their institute, rather than focusing only on the famous Mirinae place-name.
The Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary of Mirinae is a Korean religious institute founded by Father Jeong Haeng-man Francis Xavier. Its spirituality has emphasized following the heart of Mary in giving glory to the Triune God through prayer and apostolic service. The congregation’s history is deeply connected with the martyr tradition of Mirinae and with the development of the shrine area. The Suwon branch is a house in which the wider congregation’s spirituality and tradition are lived in a local community, and its central purpose is the prayer and common life of the sisters rather than functioning as a general public facility.
