About this place
Mirinae Shrine Pilgrim House is a retreat and prayer house located inside Mirinae Shrine in the Diocese of Suwon. It is also registered as a separate retreat facility in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory and therefore should not be treated as another name for the entire shrine, Mirinae Parish, or the Memorial Church of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon. Its identity is that of a supporting space where pilgrims can remain within the flow of their pilgrimage, pray, and spend time in retreat either individually or as a community.
The meaning of the house is linked to the memory of martyr faith preserved at Mirinae Shrine. Mirinae was a place where Catholics fleeing persecution formed a hidden Catholic village, and it became one of Korea’s representative Catholic pilgrimage sites around the memory of the tomb of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon. The Pilgrim House allows visitors not merely to look around this historical place, but to receive its meaning through prayer and meditation, and is therefore best understood as a retreat facility serving the spiritual purpose of pilgrimage.
