Mirilnae St. Joseph's Charity Sisters

This place is identified in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory as the novitiate of the Sisters of St. Joseph’s Charity of Mirinae. It should therefore be understood not as the entire congregation or its motherhouse, but as a house connected with the novitiate stage, in which those who have entered the institute learn the foundations of religious life and discern their vocation. In an environment close to the martyr tradition of Mirinae, its central character is that of a formation house where prayer, community life, and the spirit of the congregation are learned.

The Sisters of St. Joseph’s Charity of Mirinae is a Korean religious institute founded by Father Jeong Haeng-man Francis Xavier. Following St. Joseph, guardian of the Holy Family, the sisters have made works of charity for the poor and marginalized—especially children and elderly people in need—an important part of their apostolate. The novitiate is not itself a welfare institution providing those services directly; rather, it is an internal house of formation for the religious who will live that apostolate. Visitors should therefore not confuse it with a public retreat house or shrine facility simply because of its name and location.
