Marist Educational Society

About this place

The Ansan community of the Marist Brothers is a male religious community located within the Diocese of Suwon. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it as the “pre-postulancy / Ansan community.” It is therefore more accurately understood not as an independent parish church for the general faithful, but as a religious community combining the brothers’ common life with an initial formation function.

The Marist Brothers were founded by St. Marcellin Champagnat with the purpose of leading young people to God through education, and their tradition has emphasized Marian devotion, family spirit, and simplicity of life. The Ansan community belongs within that religious identity. The words “teaching brothers” in the Korean name are not merely institutional wording; they express the congregation’s longstanding character of placing the education of young people at the center of its mission.

The directory's additional designation of the site as a postulancy shows that the Ansan community is more than an administrative contact point: it is a place where religious common life and formation take place. The Marist Brothers' educational mission has not been understood as limited to schools, but as helping the human and faith development of young people. In that sense, this community serves as a local communal base sustaining the life of a religious institute whose central charism is the education of youth.
