Korean Martyrs Blessed Clergy Congregation

About this place

This place in Majang-myeon, Icheon, is identified in the official Catholic Directory of Korea as Our Lady of Healing Monastery of the Clerical Congregation of the Blessed Korean Martyrs, a community of male religious. It is situated within the territory of the Diocese of Suwon, and St. Andrew’s Neuropsychiatric Hospital, for which the congregation has pastoral responsibility, is also registered at the same address. This gives the site a distinctive setting in which religious life stands close to an apostolate of healing and care. Rather than functioning as a territorial parish for local Catholics, it is best understood as a monastery centered on the common life and prayer of religious and the particular mission of the congregation.

The Clerical Congregation of the Blessed Korean Martyrs seeks to follow Jesus Christ in the evangelical spirit of the Korean martyrs and to serve the Church and society. The congregation itself arose in Korea as an indigenous male religious community and places the spirituality of the martyrs at the heart of its life. Our Lady of Healing Monastery can therefore be understood as one place where that spirituality is lived through common prayer and religious life while supporting an apostolate concerned with human dignity and healing.
