About this place
Dongtan Jangji-dong Parish belongs to the Osan District of the First Vicariate of the Diocese of Suwon and honors Mary and Joseph of the Holy Family as its patrons. Located in Jangji-dong, Hwaseong, it is the local Catholic parish where the faithful of the southern part of Dongtan 2 New Town gather around the Mass and the sacraments.
Taking Mary and Joseph of the Holy Family as patrons expresses the parish's emphasis on following God's will and caring for one another within family life. In the residential environment of the new town, Dongtan Jangji-dong Parish serves as a community where families and different generations can take part together in liturgy and faith formation.
History & origins
Dongtan Jangji-dong Parish was established on June 26, 2018. With Mary and Joseph of the Holy Family as patrons, it was incorporated into the Osan District of the Diocese of Suwon and created an independent parish community for the southern area of Dongtan 2 New Town.
The Catholic directory clearly gives the foundation date, the present representative address in Jangji-dong, and the patrons. However, the publicly available official sources do not provide a continuous detailed chronology of the temporary worship space used immediately after foundation or the groundbreaking and dedication of the present church. For that reason, the history is centered on the securely documented establishment of the parish in 2018 rather than on unverified building details.
Since its foundation, the parish has continued its life within the regular pastoral structure of the diocese. A diocesan record notes a pastoral visitation Mass at Dongtan Jangji-dong Parish in March 2024, showing how the new parish has become an established part of the local Church.
