About this place

Dongcheon-dong Parish belongs to the Suji District of the First Vicariate of the Diocese of Suwon and honors Saint Paul the Apostle as its patron. It is the local parish where Catholics in the Dongcheon-dong area of Suji-gu, Yongin, gather around the Mass and the sacraments, and it is listed as an independent parish in the Directory of the Catholic Church in Korea.

The missionary zeal and proclamation of the Gospel associated with Saint Paul provide an important spiritual symbol for this parish. Dongcheon-dong Parish serves not only as a place for liturgical celebration but also as a setting for catechesis and community gatherings, forming one of the Catholic centers of the Suji area.

History & origins

Dongcheon-dong Parish was established on September 30, 2003. With Saint Paul the Apostle as patron, the community began as an independent parish amid the growth of the Suji area of Yongin and then proceeded toward establishing a permanent church of its own.

The diocesan chronology records the dedication of “Dongcheon St. Paul Church” on June 27, 2009. The dedication, about six years after the parish was founded, marked an important transition from an initial parish base to a stable place for liturgical life.

The parish facilities continued to develop. The diocese records the dedication of the Dongcheon-dong education center on October 23, 2021. The sequence from church dedication to the addition of an education center shows how the parish expanded not only its worship space but also its foundation for faith formation and community activity.
