Dongbaek St. Mary Parish began on March 17, 2006. The diocesan chronology records that a new parish was established at that time under the provisional name “Dongbaek No. 1,” and the diocese later confirmed the name Dongbaek St. Mary. The current Catholic directory gives the same foundation date and identifies the patronal mystery as the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Beginning as a newly established parish, the community steadily developed its parish organization and pastoral life alongside the growth of the Dongbaek area. Public official sources do not provide a sufficiently detailed chronology of the construction of the church building, but the diocesan naming records and the Catholic directory clearly document the institutional settling of the parish.
A 2026 diocesan report notes that the parish's Sunday school for children with disabilities marked its 10th anniversary. This shows that the parish's history has developed not only through administrative and physical growth but also through pastoral work that helps Catholics with developmental disabilities and their families continue their life of faith within the Church.
