About this place
Daecheondong Catholic Church is a parish of the Anseong District in the First Vicariate of the Diocese of Suwon, and the Korean Catholic Directory identifies it as a central parish of the Anseong District. Its patron is Saint Peter the Apostle, whose confession of faith in Christ and mission to strengthen the Church provide an important spiritual sign for the community.
The parish serves Catholics in the urban area of Anseong and surrounding neighborhoods through the Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities. Having developed in the region over many decades, it functions not simply as a neighborhood church but as one of the important pastoral centers connected with the expansion of Catholic life in Anseong.
To understand Daecheondong Parish, it is helpful to see its present role as a district-center parish together with its historical background as a community separated from an older Anseong parish. The exact date of establishment, however, is recorded differently in several Church sources, so the history section does not attempt to fix a single date.
