About this place

Buk-Yeoju Catholic Church is a parish in the Yeoju–Icheon District of the Second Vicariate of the Diocese of Suwon, with St. Teresa of Jesus as its patron saint. The official Catholic directory in Korea records two mission stations attached to Buk-Yeoju, making its role clear as a pastoral center linking the parish church with Catholic communities dispersed across northern Yeoju and nearby areas. The parish church is the central place where the faithful celebrate Mass and the sacraments and continue catechesis and community life.

The church lies within the Yeoju living area near the Namhan River and the Silleuksa area. Rather than functioning only as a single urban church, it is part of a structure in which the parish and its mission stations together form the local Catholic community. In such a setting, the parish church is not only the center of liturgy but also an important point of connection for Catholics living across a wider area. A diocesan architectural competition announced in 2006 also confirms that the Buk-Yeoju community was preparing an independent church building in the Cheonsong-ri area. Because official sources differ on the exact date of the parish’s establishment, the present introduction focuses on the stable facts of its affiliation, patron saint, and pastoral role rather than repeating a disputed chronology.
