Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi

About this place

The Suwon community of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi is a women’s religious community located in Uman-dong, Suwon, within the Diocese of Suwon. The Catholic Directory in Korea lists it as the Suwon branch of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi, confirming it as one of the congregation’s communities in Korea.

Following the spirituality of Saint Francis, the congregation emphasizes prayer, poverty, and love of neighbor and has served in fields including welfare for persons with disabilities, children, youth, and the elderly, parish ministry, and retreat houses. The Suwon community is best understood as a local expression of this charism within the diocesan Church. Because public sources do not provide a reliable chronology for the establishment of this specific branch, the description focuses on its present religious identity and apostolic character. A religious branch should also be distinguished from a parish: it does not govern a territorial community of lay faithful, but lives the congregation’s charism through common life and prayer while participating in the apostolate of the local Church as needed.
