About this place

Eunhaeng-dong Catholic Church is the parish church of a parish in the Siheung–Ansan District of the Diocese of Incheon, serving Catholics in the Eunhaeng and Daeya area of Siheung through Mass, the sacraments, and parish community life. It is registered in the Catholic Church Directory in Korea as an independent parish, with the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its patron. Although the parish retains the name “Eunhaeng-dong,” its current principal address is in Daeya-dong, so it is best understood in the context of the broader northeastern Siheung community rather than by administrative-district name alone.

The parish is an example of a newly formed local Catholic community growing into an independent parish. With the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its patron, it centers its life on the liturgy and faith formation while serving as a local anchor for Catholics to live their faith in the community. The present church building is the fruit of the parish community’s multi-year effort to establish its own pastoral foundation and permanent liturgical space, and today it serves as the central place where local Catholics continue their ordinary life of faith.

History & origins

Eunhaeng-dong Parish was established in January 2003 after being separated from Sincheon Parish. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives its formal establishment date as January 20, 2003. From that point, the new parish community began the process of building its own pastoral structure and securing a permanent church.

For a period after its establishment, the parish used temporary facilities. A 2006 report records that it moved to the fourth floor of a building in Eunhaeng-dong, Siheung. The community later pursued the construction of a permanent church, and the present church was dedicated in October 2010. This marked an important stage in the development of the community that had separated from Sincheon Parish into a parish with its own stable liturgical home.

In 2013, the parish celebrated a Mass of thanksgiving for its tenth anniversary and organized commemorative events including an exhibition of historical photographs. Contemporary reporting emphasized the participation and service of parishioners from the early years of the parish through the church-building project. The history of Eunhaeng-dong Catholic Church thus reflects the way a parish community was separated, settled, and established as an independent Catholic presence amid the growth of the Siheung area.
