The Jesuit community in Nokbeon-dong is registered in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory as “St. Alberto Hurtado Community.” Located at 54-5 Seooreung-ro, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, it is a distinct community from Xavier Community and St. John Berchmans House elsewhere in the same district.
Bearing the name of St. Alberto Hurtado, this house is one of the communities in northwestern Seoul where Jesuits live common religious life. Since the Korean Province today identifies “walking with the excluded” as a principal apostolic preference, the community can be understood within the province’s wider emphasis on accompaniment and social mission.
History & origins
St. Alberto Hurtado Community is recorded as having been established in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul, in 2018, together with St. John Berchmans House. This reflects the expansion of the Jesuit community base in northwestern Seoul during the late 2010s.
The current Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory lists St. Alberto Hurtado Community at 54-5 Seooreung-ro in Nokbeon-dong, Eunpyeong-gu. Because the 2018 record of establishment in Eunpyeong-gu corresponds with the present name and address, this site can be identified as the current base of the community founded at that time.
The public chronology does not provide a more detailed building completion date or occupancy process, so 2018 is used only as the documented year of establishment of the community.
