History & origins

Ujangsan Parish began in the reorganization of parish territories in the Hwagok area in 2005. Archdiocesan material on Hwagokbondong records that Hwagok 6-dong Parish was separated that year, while the history of Balsandong Parish likewise records the division of the Hwagok 6-dong and Sinwol 1-dong communities in October 2005.

The current Archdiocese of Seoul directory gives September 22, 2005 as the establishment date of Ujangsan Parish. The community can therefore be understood as having begun under the Hwagok 6-dong name before becoming established as Ujangsan Parish.

As the parish grew as an independent community, it worked toward building its own church. By 2010, a public notice was issued to select a contractor for a new church on the present site, showing that the construction project had entered a concrete phase.
