About this place

Ui Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul located at 17 Uicheon-ro 48-gil, Dobong-gu, Seoul, serving the local community within the Dobong-Gangbuk district. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory lists the Holy Family as the parish patron and records the presence of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres in parish ministry.

The parish serves as a local center of Catholic life for the Ssangmun-dong and Ui Stream area, where the faithful gather around the Mass and the sacraments. Its dedication to the Holy Family expresses a parish identity centered on living the Gospel in family and community life.

History & origins

Ui Parish was established as a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul on February 21, 2002. As the new community took shape, a church site was secured and construction of the church proceeded over roughly two years.

A parish dedication notice posted on GoodNews in the autumn of the same year states that the church had been completed and that a dedication ceremony was being prepared with Archbishop Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk, then Archbishop of Seoul, presiding. The establishment of the parish and completion of its church therefore followed in close succession.

Ui Catholic Church subsequently became an established parish serving the Dobong-Gangbuk area, continuing Masses, the sacraments, faith formation, and community life. Its present address and parish status are also confirmed in the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory.
