The community of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters of Tutzing at 11 Gaebong-ro 18-gil, Guro-gu, Seoul is listed in the Korean Catholic Directory as the “Gaebong-dong Branch” of the Seoul Priory. The congregation’s official website also names Gaebong-dong Parish among the parishes where the Seoul Priory carries out parish ministry.
It is a Benedictine missionary community living and serving within Gaebong-dong Parish, continuing the congregation’s Korean parish apostolate through catechesis, visits to the sick and families, and service to the local Catholic community.
History & origins
The Gaebong-dong branch was established while Gaebong-dong Parish was consolidating its local community. The parish’s official history records the establishment of the “Missionary Benedictine Sisters” Gaebong-dong branch on February 23, 1983.
In March 1984, Saetbyeol Kindergarten opened as part of the parish’s local evangelizing effort, and in 1986 the existing “House of the Resurrection” was demolished and rebuilt as the sisters’ residence. These milestones show how the branch became rooted in the parish’s growth and its educational and missionary apostolate.
