About this place

Samseongdong Catholic Church is a parish of District 11 (Gangnam) of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 68 Seolleung-ro 112-gil, Gangnam-gu. It was established on September 7, 2000, from Cheongdam-dong Parish to serve all of Samseong 2-dong and part of Samseong 1-dong, and its patronal dedication is the Holy Family.

The parish serves Catholics in the Samseong-dong area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. With Jesus, Mary, and Joseph—the Holy Family—as its patron, faith within families and the parish community forms an important part of its identity.

History & origins

Samseongdong Parish was established from its mother parish, Cheongdam-dong, on September 7, 2000. The parish's official introduction records that all of Samseong 2-dong and part of Samseong 1-dong were assigned to the new parish, and the current Catholic Church Directory in Korea gives the same establishment date.

The first pastor, Father Choi Seon-ung James, arrived on October 1, 2000, and began the pastoral life of the new community. The parish subsequently took root as an independent Catholic community in central Gangnam under the patronage of the Holy Family.
