History & origins

The Salesians entered Korea in 1954 and developed a range of apostolates, including youth education and parish ministry. Guro 3-dong Catholic Church, where the present community serves, was established on October 17, 1963, and its patron is Saint Francis de Sales, whose name and spiritual tradition were adopted by Don Bosco for the Salesian congregation.

The current church directory explicitly identifies members of the Guro 3-dong Salesian community as the parish and assistant priests. The history of this place is therefore best understood not only as part of the broader Salesian story but also as a history of local parish ministry in Guro 3-dong. The available official sources do not establish the exact date when the present “Guro 3-dong Community” was separately organized as a religious community.
