The Salesian community in Sinwol-dong is a Salesian religious community at 37 Nambusunhwan-ro 54-gil, Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The current church directory links members of the community with the Nanum House and the Seoul Youth Dream Center, showing that the community's apostolate is closely connected with youth protection, education, and social care.
The Seoul Youth Dream Center at the same address is operated under commission by the Korean Catholic Salesians and provides education, counseling, independence support, and protection for young people in crisis. This gives contemporary form to Don Bosco's Preventive System, which seeks the growth of young people through reason, religion, and loving-kindness.
History & origins
After entering Korea on May 8, 1954, the Salesians established a variety of communities and institutions centered on youth education and welfare. A major part of the current apostolate in Sinwol-dong, the Seoul Youth Dream Center, was entrusted to the Korean Catholic Salesians in 2011, began operations in September 2012, and formally opened in June 2013.
Today the Sinwol-dong Salesian community and the Dream Center share the same address and continue work in youth protection, counseling, education, and support for independent living. The available official sources do not provide a separate foundation date for the religious community itself, so the Dream Center's opening date is not treated as the founding date of the community.
