Retreat center

About this place

The Salesian Education Center is an education and retreat facility of the Archdiocese of Seoul at 65 Yeouidaebang-ro, Yeongdeungpo-gu, and is entrusted to the Salesians of Don Bosco. The Salesian provincial-house community is registered at the same address, making the site one of the important bases for Salesian formation, education, and spirituality in Korea.

The Salesians were founded by Saint John Bosco for the education and growth of young people, especially those most in need. The center serves education and retreat within the Salesian tradition of the Preventive System, grounded in reason, religion, and loving-kindness.

History & origins

The Salesians of Don Bosco were founded by Saint John Bosco on December 18, 1859, and entered Korea on May 8, 1954. Their Korean apostolate subsequently expanded through youth education and welfare, schools, youth facilities, retreats, and formation.

Today the Korean Salesian Province, the provincial-house community, and the Salesian Education Center are all registered at 65 Yeouidaebang-ro. The available official sources do not establish an exact opening date for the education center itself, so the date of the Salesians' arrival in Korea or the history of the province should not be treated as the center's opening date.
