Sadang 5-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 14 (Dongjak) of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 59 Sadang-ro 8-gil, Dongjak-gu, Seoul. The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment on September 26, 1997 and lists the Incarnation of Jesus as its patronal dedication.
The parish was created as the Catholic population of the wider Sadang area grew and parish territory was divided. Today it serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Its dedication to the Incarnation of Jesus is a defining spiritual element of the parish's identity.
History & origins
The establishment of Sadang 5-dong Parish resulted from sustained Catholic growth in the Sadang area and the division of the older parish. Sadang-dong Parish purchased a site for the new parish on July 30, 1997, and on September 26 separated Sadang 5-dong Parish, transferring the records of 550 households and 1,526 faithful.
The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea also records September 26, 1997 as the parish's establishment date. Its origins therefore lie in the 1997 process in which growth of the parent parish led to the acquisition of a new site and the creation of an independent local Catholic community.
