The community of the Franciscan Daughters of Our Lady of Fatima in Sinsa-dong, Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul is listed in the Korean Catholic Directory as the “Seoul Branch / Seongmo Sohwa House.” Church sources describe it as a residential community that cares for children of North Korean defector families while also supporting their parents’ settlement.
It is one of the congregation’s social apostolates, helping children experience stable care and community life while supporting families as they build a new life.
History & origins
Seongmo Sohwa House was established in response to the growing need to care for children in North Korean defector families. A 2012 Church source described the house in Sinsa-dong, Eunpyeong-gu as having opened “recently” and identified its ministry as helping care for the children of newly settled families.
A 2022 account of the congregation’s ministries again identifies Seongmo Sohwa House, together with Agnes House, as caring for children and supporting their parents’ settlement. The exact opening date is not stated publicly, but the apostolate is clearly documented in Sinsa-dong by the early 2010s.
