About this place
Ogeum St. Joseph Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul at 217 Munjeong-ro, Songpa-gu, with Saint Joseph as its patron. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea directory lists it as an independent parish in the Songpa area, and the parish’s official website identifies the same community and location.
The parish serves Catholics in the southern Ogeum area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life. Its name and patronage under Saint Joseph give the community a clear identity, and it is a separate parish from nearby Ogeum-dong Catholic Church.
History & origins
Ogeum St. Joseph Parish was established in February 2012 from portions of Macheon-dong and Ogeum-dong parishes. The parish’s official introduction records that the new community began with 866 households and 2,380 Catholics.
The early parish created worship space by converting an existing factory building. Remodeling work began in March 2012, and after a building permit was obtained in November of that year, construction continued to establish a permanent church.
The new church was dedicated on November 30, 2014, in a liturgy presided over by Bishop Timothy Yu Gyoung-chon. The transition from a converted building to a dedicated church over roughly two years forms the core of the parish’s early history.
