About this place
Noryangjin Fish Market Catholic Church is a quasi-parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul at 9-8 Nodeul-ro 2-gil in Dongjak-gu. It was established on February 18, 1999, and its patron is St. Peter the Apostle, himself remembered in the Gospel as a fisherman.
The quasi-parish provides Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life within the working rhythm of fish-market merchants and employees. Unlike a conventional residential parish, its distinctive mission is to connect Catholic faith with the occupational community of Noryangjin Fish Market.
History & origins
The Catholic community at Noryangjin Fish Market began to take organized form in 1984 when Catholic workers and merchants created the Peter Association. They gathered in spaces within the market for Mass and prayer and spent many years raising funds for a more stable church community.
After roughly fifteen years of community life, Noryangjin Fish Market Quasi-Parish was formally established on February 18, 1999. Its history is distinctive because a lay occupational fellowship within the marketplace grew into a quasi-parish while continuing ministry and charitable outreach among market workers.
