History & origins

The origins of Mok 5-dong Parish go back to 1986, when residents were moving into Mokdong New Town. A mission station was organized in January of that year and the first Mass was celebrated in a Catholic family's apartment. Rapid growth led to the establishment of Mok 1-dong Parish on February 6, 1987.

When construction of a permanent church began in June 1990, the parish was renamed Mok 5-dong. Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan presided at the dedication of the new church on June 5, 1994. Continued growth later led to the creation of Mok 4-dong Parish in 2008, further dividing pastoral responsibility in the Mokdong area.
