About this place

Mok 3-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 18, Yangcheon, in the western region of the Archdiocese of Seoul. The current Catholic Directory records its establishment date as June 14, 1973, and its patronal dedication as the Holy Cross.

The parish serves the Mokdong area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Older church historical sources describe the same community at the present Mok 3-dong location as Deungchon Parish, reflecting changes in local administrative names and parish naming over time.

History & origins

The community now known as Mok 3-dong Parish became an independent parish after separation from Mokdong Parish in June 1973. Historical church records refer to it as Deungchon Parish, while placing it at the present Mok 3-dong location and identifying the Holy Cross as its patronal dedication.

As the Gangseo and Yangcheon areas developed and the Catholic population grew, parish territories were further subdivided. Records of the later establishment of Deungchon 1-dong Parish in 1986 from the former Deungchon territory show how the history of Mok 3-dong is connected to the broader urban growth of southwestern Seoul.
