History & origins

The Jangchung-dong community of the Mirinae Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary began in 1979, when the congregation established its own branch in Jangchung-dong, Seoul, before the institute received its later canonical recognition. The Catholic encyclopedia records that branches were established that year in both Jung-dong, Daegu, and Jangchung-dong, Seoul.

The congregation subsequently received approval of its constitutions from the Holy See on July 11, 1983, and diocesan approval from the Bishop of Suwon on February 2, 1984. The Jangchung-dong branch's 1979 beginning and the congregation's 1984 canonical establishment are therefore distinct stages in its history.
