About this place
The Huam-dong branch of the Little Company of Mary is a religious community at 9 Duteopbawi-ro 69-gil, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea lists it as the congregation's Huam-dong branch within the Archdiocese of Seoul and links it with the Mohyun Center website.
The Little Company of Mary has long regarded care for the sick and the dying as a central apostolic calling. The Huam-dong community is directly connected with the Mohyun hospice ministry that developed in Korea, making it a place where the congregation's service to terminally ill patients and their families has taken concrete form.
History & origins
The Little Company of Mary was founded by Mary Potter in England on July 2, 1877, and the Catholic Church Directory in Korea records November 23, 1963, as the congregation's arrival in Korea. After establishing itself in Korea, the congregation developed ministries in health care and hospice service.
Bibliographic information for a history published by the congregation records that the Mohyun home hospice began in Huam-dong in 1987 and began using the name “Mohyun” the following year. The current Catholic Church Directory also lists the Huam-dong branch at this location, confirming the close connection between the site and the history of the congregation's hospice ministry in Korea.
