History & origins
The Franciscan Missionaries of Mary were founded by Mary of the Passion on January 6, 1877, and the Catholic Church Directory in Korea records June 26, 1958, as their arrival in Korea. The current directory lists the “Seoul St. Mary Magdalene Community” in Cheonho-dong as a separate community of the congregation.
The exact opening date of the St. Mary Magdalene Community or the date of its move to the present address was not established in the official public sources reviewed. The 1958 arrival of the congregation in Korea is therefore not presented as the foundation date of this community; the two levels of history are kept distinct.
