About this place
Mangudong Catholic Church is a parish of District 7, Dongdaemun-Jungnang, in the eastern region of the Archdiocese of Seoul. It was established on February 14, 1997, and is dedicated to the Holy Family.
The parish serves Catholics in the Mangu area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. It was formed when a growing local Catholic community was separated from Sangbong Parish. Its dedication to the Holy Family is an important part of the parish's identity.
History & origins
Mangudong Parish was created on February 14, 1997, when the growing Catholic population of the Jungnang area led to its separation from Sangbong Parish. Sangbong's historical record states that 898 households comprising 2,657 Catholics were transferred to the new parish.
The separation formed part of the broader development of parish communities in Jungnang as housing and population expanded from the 1970s onward. Mangudong subsequently established itself as an independent pastoral community serving the local area.
