The Conventual Franciscan Retreat House is an education and retreat facility at 90 Hannam-daero in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The Catholic Church Directory classifies it specifically as an “education hall and retreat house” under the responsibility of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual.
The same Hannam-dong site also contains the provincial headquarters and St. Francis Friary of the order. The retreat house is therefore a distinct pastoral function within the larger Franciscan complex, used by individuals and Church groups for prayer, formation, and retreats rather than functioning as a territorial parish itself.
History & origins
After entering Korea in October 1958, the Conventual Franciscans developed communities and apostolates in parish ministry, formation, and retreats. Hannam-dong is now a major Korean center of the order, housing the provincial headquarters and St. Francis Friary.
The retreat house on the same property is currently listed in the Korean bishops' official guide to retreat and prayer houses and is used for retreats and formation by various Church groups. Its exact facility opening date is not publicly documented, so the order's 1958 arrival in Korea is not used as the opening date of the retreat house.
