History & origins

Catholic ministry at Central Veterans Hospital developed in earnest in 1987, when an assistant priest from Dunchon-dong Parish began celebrating Mass there once a month. From 1988 a religious sister was assigned to the hospital, weekly Mass was celebrated, and a Catholic community among patients and staff gradually took shape.

Construction of a dedicated church began in October 1990, and the church was consecrated on December 12, 1991. The first priest formally assigned to hospital chaplaincy arrived in 2001, and on February 21, 2002, the community was elevated to the status of a quasi-parish. The church was renovated and blessed again in 2017, and Catholic liturgical and sacramental ministry has continued amid changes in the hospital environment.
