About this place

Jeon·Jin·Sang Spirituality Center is a spirituality and education center of the International Catholic Fraternity (AFI), located on Myeongdong 10-gil near Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul. The name Jeon·Jin·Sang is formed from three Korean expressions meaning complete self-offering, true love, and constant joy, encapsulating the lay spirituality and service that have shaped the center.

Today the center offers programs that connect Christian spirituality with psychological growth, including lectures, counseling, retreats, and cultural activities. In 2026, ahead of the 2027 Seoul World Youth Day, it organized group programs and professional counseling to help young adults dealing with emotional exhaustion and relationship difficulties, continuing its role as an urban place of faith and human growth in the heart of Myeongdong.

History & origins

The history of Jeon·Jin·Sang Spirituality Center began in 1956, when members of the International Catholic Fraternity came to Korea at the request of Archbishop Paul Ro Ki-nam of Seoul. They prepared a place for women coming to Seoul to study, and on September 28, 1957 opened the “Catholic Women's Student Hall” at the present site.

What began as a residence for female university students expanded into a center for Catholic student groups, women's organizations, Young Christian Workers, and university associations. In 1980 the building was renamed the “Jeon·Jin·Sang Education Center,” broadening its work through adult education and cultural programs.

From the late 1990s, spirituality and psychological education and counseling became increasingly central, leading toward the center's present identity. The building was renewed in 2024 as a combined cultural and spiritual space. Through counseling, retreats, and youth programs, it continues a tradition dating to 1957 of adapting its mission to the needs of each era.
