About this place

Jayangdong Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul on Neungdong-ro 4-gil in Gwangjin-gu. Its patron is St. Vincent de Paul, and the Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul are active in parish ministry.

Serving the Jayang area between Seongsu-dong and the Han River, the parish has long provided a home for the Mass, the sacraments, faith formation, and community life. Its established pastoral presence also became an important base for the later growth and division of Catholic communities in the surrounding area.

History & origins

The Jayangdong community acquired land for a church in 1974 and proceeded with construction in 1976, celebrating its first Mass at Christmas that year. On August 25, 1977, the parish received formal approval and became an independent parish separated from Seongsudong Parish; its first pastor arrived in the same year as parish structures were organized.

The church was dedicated in 1978. The parish then grew along with the Catholic population of the Jayang area, expanding its pastoral presence and developing into the community that continues today.
