History & origins

Jamsil 7-dong Parish began by purchasing a church site early in 1993 as Jamsil Parish prepared for division. It was formally established on October 18, 1993 with 1,033 households and 2,883 Catholics. The community first borrowed Jamsil Church for Sunday Masses, then completed a temporary prefabricated chapel at the present site and celebrated Christmas Midnight Mass there on December 24.

Parishioners began a major church-building fund in 1997 and organized a building committee in 1999. Bishop Paul Kim Ok-kyun presided over the groundbreaking Mass on February 23, 2000. During construction the community continued worship, including in the basement hall of the new building.

After the completion inspection in September 2001, the new church was dedicated on January 27, 2002 by Archbishop Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk. The roughly eight-year journey from a temporary chapel to a permanent church is a defining part of the parish's early history.
