About this place

Guro 1-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Guro District 16 at 16 Guil-ro 8-gil in Guro-gu. It was established on February 26, 1993, and has St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon, Korea's first priest and martyr, as its patron.

The parish serves Catholics in Guro 1-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. It separated from Gurobon-dong Parish as the local Catholic population grew and draws spiritual identity from St. Andrew Kim's missionary faith and martyrdom.

History & origins

Guro 1-dong Parish was separated from Gurobon-dong Parish and established on February 26, 1993, in response to local development and growth in the Catholic population. From the beginning it served as an independent pastoral community for the Guro 1-dong area under the patronage of St. Andrew Kim Tae-gon.

Because administrative and parish names in the Guro area changed over time, today's Guro 1-dong Parish must be distinguished from the older parish once called “Guro 1-dong,” established in 1969. That older lineage later became Gurobon-dong and is now associated with Guro 2-dong Parish, while the present Guro 1-dong Parish dates from 1993.
