About this place
Gupabal Catholic Church, officially listed as “Gupabal (Ji),” is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Eunpyeong District 3 at 29-16 Jingwan 2-ro in Eunpyeong-gu. It was established on February 10, 1973, and is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The parish began after separating from Bulgwang-dong Parish and now serves Catholics in Jingwan-dong and the Eunpyeong New Town area through Mass, the sacraments, and catechesis. Its present church complex was developed in response to redevelopment and community growth and combines liturgical, educational, and welfare functions.
History & origins
Gupabal Parish began when a community that had grown under Bulgwang-dong Parish was separated in February 1973; the Catholic Church Directory records February 10 as its establishment date. The parish later developed through major urban change and population growth in the Jingwan area.
With the development of Eunpyeong New Town, the parish undertook a new church project at its present Jingwan-dong location. Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk dedicated the new church on May 1, 2011. The complex included not only the main worship space but also facilities for education and local care.
