고덕동 성당

History & origins

Godeok-dong Parish was prepared in response to growth in the Catholic populations of Cheonho-dong and Amsa-dong and was established on February 21, 1986. With more than two thousand Catholics already present at its founding, the community initially worshipped in rented facilities while the archdiocese helped secure land for a church.

In 1987 Maria Kang Seon-bi donated additional land, strengthening the church-building project. Parishioners then worked for several years to raise funds and prepare the site, culminating in the blessing of the church in September 1991. The movement from rented worship space to a permanent church is the central feature of the parish's early history.
