The Eunpyeong community of the Religious of Mary Immaculate Claretian Missionary Sisters (R.M.I.) is the congregation's Seoul formation house, located in Daeseong Mansion at 8 Jinheung-ro 1ra-gil in Eunpyeong-gu. Mission is at the heart of the congregation's religious identity.
The sisters seek to proclaim the Gospel joyfully and to respond to the actual needs of the local Church and society through flexible forms of apostolate. The Seoul house is therefore a formation community for missionary religious life, not an independent church or ordinary territorial parish.
History & origins
The Claretian Missionary Sisters were founded in Santiago de Cuba in 1855 through the collaboration of St. Anthony Mary Claret and María Antonia París. Their first work emphasized education for poor girls and women, but the congregation later developed a broader missionary identity, adapting educational, parish, and social ministries to local needs.
The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records April 18, 1995, as the congregation's arrival in Korea. The first communities included sisters of several nationalities serving in parish, childcare, and social ministries. A separate Seoul formation house is now registered, but its exact opening date is not publicly documented. Sources also differ slightly on the canonical foundation date in August 1855, so the public text avoids choosing arbitrarily between August 25 and August 27.
