About this place
This place refers to the community of Sisters of the Congregation of the Sacred Word assigned to Gongneung-dong Catholic Church in Nowon-gu, Seoul. The address is identical to that of Gongneung Parish, and the Catholic Church Directory identifies the Congregation of the Sacred Word as the religious community serving the parish.
The congregation seeks to live the Gospel in daily life and, in parish ministry, assists with liturgy, catechesis, and service to people who are poor or marginalized. This record therefore represents the sisters' parish-apostolate community at Gongneung, not an independent church or the congregation's formal Seoul headquarters.
History & origins
The Congregation of the Sacred Word was founded on May 17, 1964. Its early community began in Busan, moved to the Diocese of Daejeon in 1967, and adopted the present Korean name of the congregation in 1983.
The congregation later expanded its apostolate to parishes in several dioceses, and its current official materials include Gongneung-dong Parish among its Seoul parish ministries. The exact date on which the Gongneung assignment began is not stated in the public official sources reviewed, so the congregation's 1964 foundation date is not treated as the opening date of this local community.
