About this place

Gayang-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Gangseo District 17, located at 69 Heojun-ro in Gangseo-gu. It was established on September 24, 1992, and has the Korean martyr St. John Yi Gwang-ryeol as its patron.

The community became independent after developing under Deungchon 1-dong Parish and now serves Catholics in Gayang-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish life. Its patronal devotion links the parish's local mission with the faith of the Korean Martyrs.

History & origins

The Gayang Catholic community developed as a mission under Deungchon 1-dong Parish and was separated and established as Gayang-dong Parish on September 24, 1992. The new community then worked to build its own pastoral structure and secure a permanent church.

After years of preparation and construction, the present church was dedicated by Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk on September 24, 2006. The parish's history therefore moves from mission community to independent parish and finally to a permanent church center.
