About this place
Galhyeon-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Seoul Archdiocese's Eunpyeong District 3 at 24-9 Tongil-ro 83-gil in Eunpyeong-gu. It was established on February 22, 1994, and has St. Paul Chong Ha-sang as its patron.
The parish was formed from territory and parishioners of Bulgwang-dong and Yeokchon-dong parishes and serves Catholics in the Galhyeon area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Its present complex also includes educational and elderly-care facilities, connecting liturgy with local service.
History & origins
Galhyeon-dong Parish was established on February 22, 1994, after preparations to separate territory and parishioners from Bulgwang-dong and Yeokchon-dong parishes. In its early years the community worshipped in a prefabricated church and adapted older facilities for education.
After a long period in temporary structures, approval for a new church was obtained in 2009 and groundbreaking followed that August. The new complex included the main church, catechetical rooms, a hall, and an elderly day-care center. Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk dedicated the new church on September 25, 2011.
