About this place
Dongjakdong Catholic Church is a parish of District 14, Dongjak, in the Western Seoul Region of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 46 Dongjak-daero 35-gil in Dongjak-gu. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment date as August 16, 1986, and lists the Sacred Heart of Jesus as its patron.
The parish was formed through separation from Sadang-dong Parish and later passed through a period of redevelopment and temporary worship before completing its present church. Dedicated in 2022, the current church is the center for Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community activities for local Catholics, with devotion to the Sacred Heart remaining an important parish tradition.
History & origins
Dongjakdong Parish was established in August 1986 through separation from Sadang-dong Parish, and its first church was built in September 1988. Redevelopment of the surrounding area later forced the parish to leave that building in October 2017 and move to a temporary church in Bangbae-dong.
Construction of the present church began on the current site in June 2019 and was completed in August 2021. On May 1, 2022, Archbishop Peter Chung Soon-taick presided at the dedication of the new church, bringing the parish's period of temporary worship during redevelopment to a close.
