About this place
Doksan 1-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 15, Yeongdeungpo-Geumcheon, in the Western Seoul Region of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 19 Dusan-ro 5-gil in Geumcheon-gu. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment date as October 5, 2001, and lists the Holy Family as its patron.
The parish was created from territory formerly belonging to Doksandong and Guro 3-dong parishes. It serves Catholics in Doksan 1-dong and Gasan-dong through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and community life. Its devotion to the Holy Family and its roots in the mixed residential and industrial area of Geumcheon shape its present identity.
History & origins
Doksan 1-dong Parish was formed in 2001 through the creation of new parishes in the Archdiocese of Seoul, receiving all of Doksan 1-dong from Doksandong Parish and all of Gasan-dong from Guro 3-dong Parish. A diocesan Goodnews notice states that the new parish was announced on September 21, 2001, while the current Catholic Church Directory records October 5 as the establishment date.
The new community then worked toward a permanent worship space. The Goodnews Catholic Gallery records that a former factory warehouse was remodeled as the church and consecrated in 2006. This remodeled building became the parish's established place of worship.
