About this place
Deungchon 3-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 17, Gangseo, in the Western Seoul Region of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located at 35 Gonghang-daero 41-gil in Gangseo-gu. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment date as March 3, 1995, and lists the Korean Martyrs as its patrons.
The community was initially established under the name Deungchon 2-dong Parish and was renamed Deungchon 3-dong in 1996. With a strong devotion to the 103 Korean Martyrs, it now serves Catholics in the Deungchon 3-dong area through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and local parish activities.
History & origins
Deungchon 3-dong Parish was established on March 3, 1995, after separation from Gayang-dong Parish, originally under the name Deungchon 2-dong Parish. Its first Mass was celebrated on March 26 in a temporary church on the third floor of the Deungchon 7 Community Welfare Center, and the parish name was changed to Deungchon 3-dong on January 15, 1996.
Ground was broken for the present church on June 22, 1997. The first Mass there was celebrated on December 6, 1998, and completion approval was granted in May 1999. The building process culminated on October 28, 2001, when Archbishop Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk presided over the dedication of the present church.
