About this place

Daechi 4-dong Catholic Church is a parish of District 11 (Gangnam) of the Archdiocese of Seoul, located on Samseong-ro 71-gil in Daechi-dong, Gangnam-gu. It was established on September 17, 1999, and has St. Thérèse of the Child Jesus as its patron.

The parish was created by dividing pastoral territory from Daechi-dong and Daechi 2-dong parishes, responding to continued urban and Catholic growth in Gangnam. Daechi 3-dong was later separated from it, making Daechi 4-dong part of the continuing subdivision of parish life in the area.

History & origins

The Archdiocese of Seoul established Daechi 4-dong Parish on September 17, 1999. The contemporary diocesan notice states that the new parish received all of Daechi 4-dong from Daechi-dong Parish and all of Daechi 3-dong from Daechi 2-dong Parish. The official history of Daechi-dong separately records the actual separation of Daechi 4-dong on October 8 of that year.

After the new community was established, another change followed on September 9, 2004, when Daechi 3-dong Parish was created by separation from Daechi 4-dong to serve all of Daechi 3-dong. Daechi 4-dong's early history is therefore marked by its formation from two existing parish territories in 1999 and the later creation of a daughter parish in 2004.
