About this place

Cheongpa-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul in Yongsan-gu, with St. Paul the Apostle as its patron saint. According to the parish’s official information, its territory centers on Cheongpa-dong and Hyochang-dong and also includes parts of Wonhyo-ro 1-ga, Yongmun-dong, Gongdeok-dong, and Singongdeok-dong.

It serves local Catholics through liturgy, the sacraments, faith formation, and community life. In addition to ordinary territorial ministry, the parish maintains administrative connections with Cheongpa Cemetery and Pyeonghwa Cemetery, giving it a link with ministry for the deceased and cemetery care. Its essential identity is that of a long-standing urban parish at the meeting point of central Seoul and the Yongsan area.

History & origins

Cheongpa-dong Parish was established on August 13, 1963. The parish’s published records of clergy show a continuing succession of pastors from 1963, and its records also document members of the Korean Martyrs’ Sisters serving the community in evangelization roles from 1967 onward.

Across subsequent generations, priests and religious sisters continued catechesis and pastoral care as the parish became established around Cheongpa-dong and Hyochang-dong. The official parish website preserves relatively detailed records of clergy assignments and religious service, but the dates of church construction, expansion, or dedication were not sufficiently verified within the sources reviewed here and are therefore not stated as facts.
