About this place
Chang 4-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul’s 6th Dobong–Gangbuk District, located at 192 Madeul-ro 13-gil, Dobong-gu, Seoul. Its patron is the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, and the current Korean Catholic Directory records the parish as established on February 10, 2012.
The present Chang 4-dong Parish is a separate community created by division from Chang 5-dong Parish. It should not be confused with the historical fact that today’s Chang 5-dong Parish once used the name “Chang 4-dong Parish”; the current Chang 4-dong Parish began in 2012.
History & origins
The formation of the present Chang 4-dong Parish began as Chang 5-dong Parish prepared to create a new parish, securing a new church site in 2009 and celebrating the groundbreaking Mass on May 8, 2011.
On February 10, 2012, 2,937 parishioners were separated from Chang 5-dong Parish to establish Chang 4-dong Parish. The two communities continued to share the Chang 5-dong church until the new building was completed, and the new parish moved into its church in November 2012. The new church was formally dedicated by the archbishop on June 16, 2013, completing the permanent liturgical home of the independent parish.
