About this place
Bomun-dong Catholic Church is a parish of the Archdiocese of Seoul located at 33 Bomun-ro 13ga-gil, Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. The current Catholic Church Directory in Korea records its establishment on August 5, 2010.
It is a relatively young parish created as Donam-dong Parish grew and required division. At its founding, it received territory not only from Donam-dong but also from Dongdaemun Parish, forming a new Catholic community for Bomun-dong and neighboring areas. Today it serves local Catholics through Mass, the sacraments, catechesis, and parish community life.
History & origins
By the late 2000s, Donam-dong Parish had grown large enough that a division became necessary. According to Donam-dong Parish's official history, Bomun-dong Parish was established on August 5, 2010, with support from the Archdiocese of Seoul and Dongdaemun Parish.
The new parish received parts of Bomun-dong, Anam-dong, and Samseon-dong from Donam-dong Parish and part of Sinseol-dong from Dongdaemun Parish. Its formation therefore involved a coordinated adjustment of territory from two neighboring parishes rather than a simple one-to-one split.
