About this place

The Seoul community of the Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood is a women's religious community located at 124 Gwancheon-ro 11-gil, Gwanak-gu, Seoul. The Catholic Church Directory in Korea identifies it as a Seoul branch belonging to the Archdiocese of Seoul, while the congregation's Korean regional headquarters is in the Diocese of Cheongju.

The congregation seeks to make God's love visible through missionary life and serves in fields such as education, social and charitable work, and pastoral ministry. Its international official website states that sisters in Korea currently serve in various ministries in the Archdioceses/Dioceses of Seoul and Cheongju. The public directory, however, does not specify the exact apostolate of this particular Seoul house.

History & origins

The Missionary Sisters of the Precious Blood is an international missionary congregation founded in 1885. According to the congregation's official account of Korea, sisters first came to the country in 1966 but withdrew in 1970. A second beginning was made by three Korean CPS sisters in 1986, and the Catholic Church Directory in Korea records November 24, 1986 as the congregation's re-entry into Korea.

The Korean community subsequently became established, with its regional headquarters in the Diocese of Cheongju and a branch in the Archdiocese of Seoul. Public official sources do not provide a specific opening date for the present Gwanak-gu house, so the 1986 return to Korea should not be treated as the founding date of this particular Seoul branch.
